In 2003 the Australian PMI Council, a body made up of all the local PMI Chapters in Australia, moved to recognise the efforts of project managers and PMI members in Australia by creating the PMI Australian Professional Awards. The second award ceremony was held in August 2004.
The two Awards presented in 2004 were:
PMI Australian Chapters Project Manager of the Year Award
PMI Australian Chapters Project Manager of the Year Award recognises excellence in project management.

PMI Australian Chapters Distinguished Contribution Award
