Certification > PMP

The Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is the project management credential of choice for numerous industries and companies around the world.

The purpose and goal of this program is to develop, maintain, evaluate, promote and administer a rigorous, examination-based, professional certification program of the highest calibre.

There are now more than 50,000 Project Management Professionals (PMPs) working across 120 countries.

To obtain PMP certification:

  1. Eligibility: You must meet specific education and experience eligibiliy criteria and agree to adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct.

  2. Examination: You must pass a multiple-choice examination designed to objectively assess and measure your project management knowledge. The computer-based examination is administered globally.

The examination covers the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) that is internationally recognised as underpinning PM best practice.

Detailed information on the PMI certification examination including exam administration, tailored project management texts, on line applications, sample PMP exam questions, schedules and other related information is available through the PMI GOC site in the Professional Development - Certifications section.

  3. Continuing Certification: Once certification is achieved by passing the examination, PMPs must demonstrate an ongoing professional commitment to the field of project management by satisfying PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program

PMPs maintain their certification status by 'earning' an identified number of PDU (Professional Development Unit) points on an annual basis. These PDU points can be earned in a number of ways including attendance at PMI events, seminars and specified training.

In the past year the PMI Melbourne Chapter has seen a 300% increase in the number of attendees at study groups and training courses designed to prepare individuals for the PMP exam.
